The Varieties Of Tourists Is Shifting In Pattaya
Thailand has always been a major stay on everyone’s holiday plans to Asia. Traveling to Pattaya is on the peak of many peoples lists to visit in the realm of Thailand. The combination of wicked nightlife and a less than desirable ex-pat community has made it only a place that a certain kind of traveler would enjoy. This is one characteristic of the city that the regional government has been working vigorously to change.
In their attempts to attract a more diverse group of tourists, the government of Pattaya has been working to change the city’s image. One of the things that they have been doing is trying to replace a lot of bars and entertainment complexes with new hotels and shopping malls. One thing that keeps a lot of tourists away is the poor infrastructure of Pattaya, but they are working to improve that as well.
The city has also been on a major advertisement campaign around the world. They are trying to draw travelers from throughout Asia and Eastern Europe to try South East Asia travel. There has been a significant increase in tourist numbers from these areas. People in government are still trying to decide if this is actually been a benefit. One thing about these new tourists is that they don’t seem to spend their cash like the ones they are replacing.
This new breed of tourist is quite happy to spend the day at the beach and eating simple meals at the hotel. The money the that the other tourists spend on food, entertainment, and shopping far out way what this new group is putting into the economy. It is hard to replace the later without having a severe impact on local businesses.
There is a big debate going on as to whether this decision was a smart one or if they should return to the old ways of attracting tourists. This new advertising could be the downfall of a once profitable tourist industry.
